Upon arrival we were met with what seemed like an escape room type entry. There was an envelope taped on the window (no one told me to look for this), with instructions on how to open a lock key box, get a key, open the gate, return the key, then enter code to your condo. The grounds are beautiful and clean. However our condo could definitely use some updating. Only one lamp worked in the bed room. The chairs in the dining room were cracked and old. Easy to replace and simple way to enhance the overall stay. The curtain in the bedroom wasn’t long enough to cover the window, so every morning my husband got woken up by the bright sun hitting his face. The room we stayed in had a view of the ocean, but to the right a hideous view of the roof top (not pictured online of course). The shower smelled. I could smell the stench of the water on my skin after i would shower. We got a “friendly reminder” that we can’t hang our towels on the rails. Ok i get that, no problem. Then one morning we wake up to a piece of paper taped to our nice rental car to not “park on the lines”. We have pictures to prove we were in the lines. We rented a bigger car, and with the parking spots being so small It was a tight fit but no need to give us a notice. Then as we left we realized i left a piece of clothing in my room. I still have not heard anything back after calling multiple times and emailing management to get my clothing shipped to me. I even offered to pay. I guess anything you leave behind is now up for grabs. For people who seem so concerned with parking in the lines and micro managing their guests, i would think the comfort and the hospitalality would be of a higher standard. But no. They just like to micro manage the people that stay, they don’t care about your accommodations and with charge you up the *** because they can. I’m sure they’re are plenty of other nice places to stay on Maui that actually have beach access.

Our family rented 2 units. 104 & 417.Units were good with great views. Property location is amazing. Rental company Destination Maui Vacations was horrible. We did a self check in due to checking in on the weekend. They had the wrong information on the gate key on our paperwork. Luckily our family had the correct info and we all made it through the gate. The next day we had parking violation notices on our cars. Would be nice for self check in to have temp car park pass. They do disclose that there is a starter kit for toilet paper and such. We rented for 10 days so my assumption was the kit would be appropriate for 10 days It was not. Our room 417 cost per night was $468. I have never stayed anywhere for even half that cost and have to supply my own toilet paper, paper towels or garbage bags. Ridiculous. Sign said please remove your shoes on door. Walked twice through the unit and feet were filthy. Shoes back on. Day 4 the kitchen faucet broke. Contacted the front desk and maintenance. Was told they do not have parts and would get back to me. Faucet never was fixed and never heard back at all. As with most rentals all the aluminum non-stick pans were very scratched up. Mattress in bedroom was very soft and bed was shaky. Bedroom has AC. We did not use it. Our family in 104 had an issue with the front door lock. It did not lock from the outside. Meaning when we left for the day the door would not be locked. It took 4 phone calls, a visit to the front desk and 2 days before the lock worked. Kuleana Resort is a great location but Destination Maui Vacations failed miserably. I will not consider renting from them on future trips to Maui.

We really enjoyed our Kuleana Christmas vacation. Having the ocean waves crashing less than 50’ from your room is an amazing way to begin and end the day. The room was comfortable and convenient for day trips around the western coast of Maui. The only negative is that the bath linens were a tad threadbare and (probably due to COVID) there wasn’t any of the basic kitchen staples, e.g. cooking oil, salt, pepper, ketchup, etc.

We loved this location. The view is fantastic and everything we go to maui for is within walking distance. The condos are quiet and peaceful and has all of the stuff you need to get away for a week. The only downsides we experienced were the pillows (like blocks of wood.. ugh) and the wifi (disconnects on a regular basis when working from the bedroom). Other than those, it is a fantastic place to stay - we'll do it again. And the stay is still five stars in spite of the downsides.

Loved the condo, had everything we needed. Amazing view, comfortable furnishings and a great shower!

A very clean and tidy condo complete with ocean view and a lovely pool. The Kuleana Resort is centrally located and within walking distance to shopping, beaches and dining. We enjoyed our stay.
A few things we felt needed attention. We discovered there was only one beach chair (2 would be nice), the fan and air conditioner were adequate, but perhaps needing an adjustment or cleaning. And the chairs for the dining table really sad, not sure what happened with the upholstery but they are in need of a recover project or replace the chairs.
Overall we would return. We loved the view and enjoyed having breakfast watching morning surfers. The sunsets were spectacular every evening. The condo was very comfortable, the furniture and cabinetry could use some updating. We were very pleased with the cleanliness of our condo and that is a big plus for us. Thank you.

Amazing no complaints except very hot in the afternoon in the front room the only AC is in the back bedroom even with the shades down. We had a blast and we def be back.

Great as Usual!
It was great.

The Lani table pictured in your advertisement is a safety hazard. Unlike the outdated new-like picture, the current metal base is very rusted and presents an extreme hazard for cuts and infections or even worse.
The bedroom has two major issues. The chain activated light switch on the ceiling fan doesn't work. So, whenever the fan is on the four lights are also on.
The material on the old corner chair is flaking. These flakes then get on clothing, on the floor, and bedding.
Destination Maui Realty needs to ensure that their rental properties are safe, well maintained, and depict a Resort.

The view was amazing and loved watching the whales from our balcony. Staff was very helpful and gave us some excellent suggestions for restaurants.

This rental is exceptional due to its location to the pool, waterfront access, and huge side picturesque window overlooking rooftop w/clear water views while eating breakfast.

417 was a great unit. I have sprayed at multiple units at the Kuleana Resort. The kitchen chairs would be the only thing that bothered me. The fabric was peeling and flaking and left a black soot on some of my clothing and if I didn’t sweep a daily the souls of my feet would be black. But everything else was perfect. Coffee pot, and pans! Beach chair and bogey boards!

A true gem of an experience, in our party of twenty scattered across the isles no doubt we had the best digs. Fabulous view, hilarious surfers, breathtaking turtles, friendly neighbors, and loved the communal library. Also a wonderful bonus to have a fully supplied kitchen including condiments!

The unit was perfectly adequate, and the deck views are just sublime. For the price, this is a great place to stay.
Minor things with the kitchen being slightly small and the shower having some small issues draining are minor and can be easily overlooked as you are starting at the whales breaching out the top floor view of the ocean that you just swam in.

The Kuleana is a charming and quiet resort with stunning ocean front views. On calm days one can swim out front and watch for Honu (green turtles). I enjoyed my stay very much and loved the general area of Honokowai as well. Great restaurants nearby.
I only wish I had been told ahead of time there is only a bedroom air conditioning unit which is too loud to keep on at night. The unit was very warm most nights.

The location of this unit is perfect. While sitting at the table on the lanai you feel like you are right on top of the water. The humpback whales were right in front of us. We snorkeled from the ladder into the water right in front of the unit. I recommend this unit for a couple.

We stayed here and enjoyed the quietness of the complex, the community of people were friendly and cordial, the views were breathtaking and seeing the whales and turtles right outside our balcony was one of our favorite things about the place.

We enjoyed our stay at Kuleana Resort. It was clean, well equipped and the location was great. The pool was great, the grounds were meticulous and the beach was small but nice. You could snorkel right off the beach. The only drawback is a noisy air conditioner and the table on the lanai was uncomfortable for lounging.

We had a great stay! We've stayed at several properties along Lower Honoapi'ilani and would say this is comparable to the others, which all have various pros and cons.
Pros:
-Loved the beach access, most of the other properties nearby just have rocks. My husband enjoyed swimming and snorkeling. There are some ants (we weren't sure if they were fire ants) -I got bit one time.
-We don't like using AC and it was great to have that front screen door open and the lanai screen door for a cross breeze that kept the place cool.
-The unit was on the top floor so noise was minimal. Conversations/yelling kids noise below did travel up, but people kept quiet at night.
- The pool was great, nice and large, even when there were lots of people, it didn't feel too crowded. We did wish it opened earlier (9a-9p) as it would be nice to be able to do a 7 or 8am quiet morning swim.
Cons:
- We're familiar with bug issues in Maui and follow all the trash etc rules, but had many large carpenter ants in the unit, some that flew. We tried to kill or ignore the ones we saw, but sometimes would wake up with a few crawling on us.
- The view is amazing - ONLY in comparison to other properties, the high brick walls on either side of the lanai obscure some of the beautiful panoramic view of Lanai and Molokai unless you stand right at the edge. Not really an issue at all, more of a note, since we've been spoiled by lanai views at other places.
Other: the kitchen was well stocked overall (even leftover foil/ziplocs from past folks, though no spices/oils). Our only comment was that the unit needs a single bookshelf or tiny pantry - something to better store some of the cookware. Even just a hook to hang the cutting board. We had to get creative when prepping food and doing dishes.
The bathroom was clean, however, definitely had some mold/mildew smell. We think for this particular unit it's because of the faux rock shower bottom; water doe

Shout out to Regina in the front office, who is always helpful and pleasant. Also, the grounds crew keeps the property looking very nice and tropical, and their efforts are noted and appreciated.

The views and location were incredible. The staff kept the facility property clean and well maintained. The unit was small and kitchen was challenging, but functional. The other visitors were quiet and pleasant. Overall a great place.

What a view!! 3rd floor "penthouse" view. We watched whales and turtles with our morning coffee. The location is great...right on the water. The Site Mngr, Ty, went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We also left a cell phone behind in the unit after checkout and received a call from the office within minutes letting us know.
The unit itself is lovely. Updated and decorated in blues and greens. The kitchen is well stocked, including a full set if pots and pans. The sink has a filtered water spigot. We were grateful for the pool noodles and thick pool towels. There are many unmentioned amenities we appreciated--USB port and outlet on living room floor lamp and coffee filters supplied (maybe thanks to previous renter). We left two reusable bags in the unit to pay it forward.
A few things needing attention in the unit: The down arrow button on the bedroom TV remote doesn't work...the remote needs to be replaced. The bedroom sliding door doesn't slide very well.
Other things that would be nice to have: playing cards or backgammon game; coffee bean grinder (that Kona coffee is amazing); alarm clock in bedroom; comet or soft scrub to clean sinks/tub.
We give this unit and Destination Maui 5 stars and will definitely be back.

Great location and apartment. Only comment it is not all as shiny new as the very bright pictures suggest.
