As you plan your Maui vacation (or once you are here), check on the event schedule of live performances on the island. You are in for a treat.
Opening in 1928, the historic Iao Theater was the central hub for movies and also had a small vaudeville stage. Live stage acts featured greats like Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra. Today, the theater has been loving restored, while still keeping its vintage charm.
Nonprofit Maui OnStage operates the theater and produces a full season of live performances, as well as youth theater, a fringe festival and more. This intimate 400-seat venue is consistently voted "best" for live local performances. Check out the Maui OnStage website for a full schedule
Da Playground is a more recent addition to Maui`s live event scene. Centrally located in Maalaea Harbor Village, you can regularly find live music and comedy performances, showcasing talent from local artists to nationally recognized acts, laser light displays and a top-tier sound system.
Da Playground offers a full bar with creative cocktail options, but visit one of the nearby Village restaurants for food. Find show and ticket info here. Photography from Da Playground website by Cassie Hastu.
A large complex with multiple indoor and outdoor venues, the Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC) has a robust on-going schedule. Performances range from national and international touring shows to outdoor concerts, community events and cinema under the stars. Find more info here.
